ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of quality supervision on biology teachers’ performance in public and private secondary schools in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State. The study is was specifically carried out find out the level of performance of biology teachers employed to teach in the public and private school system, to find out the effectiveness of classroom management of public and private school biology teachers, to find out factors affecting performance of biology teachers in public and private secondary schools, and to find out the effectiveness of biology teachers attendance to school in public and private schools. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 520 responses were validated from the survey whose respondents were principals, biology teachers, and students from five (5) public schools and five (5) private schools in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the level of performance of teachers employed to teach biology in the public and private school system in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State is high. Also. there are effect of quality supervision on incompetent biology teachers in public and private schools in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State, and the effect of quality supervision on incompetent biology teachers in public and private schools is that it helps teachers to develop their teaching skills, it helps teachers become more creative and interesting with the guidance from their supervisor, it helps teachers develop good classroom management after being supervised by the supervisor, and it helps teachers develop good classroom control after being supervised. Also, the classroom management of public and private schools biology teachers in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State is effective. Finally, the study revealed that there are factors affecting performance of biology teachers in public and private secondary schools in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State, and he factors affecting performance of biology teachers in public and private secondary schools are poor enumeration, lack of adequate instructional materials, poor motivation, teacher competence, leadership style, and learning environment, and that biology teachers attendance to school in public and private secondary schools in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State is effective. The study therefore recommended that adequate and proper supervision by supervisory boards should carry out timely supervision on teachers in order to ensure their efficiency, productivity and effectiveness.. Also, supervision of teachers should also be carried out in order to learn of their problems and thus proffer solutions to the problems. More so, teachers supervision should also be carried out to ensure the improvement on the academic performance of students.
